Get a Four-Legged Friend at Animal Services

Are you looking for a new dog or cat? If you are, Henderson County Animal Services has plenty to choose from. The county agency reported taking in nearly 430 dogs and cats in the first two months of 2010.

Animal Services, located near the county landfill at 828 Stoney Mountain Road, reported seeing a total of 169 dogs and 70 cats that were brought to the shelter in January. February brought a total of 126 dogs and 64 cats. Of those animals, 50 dogs and 15 cats were adopted in January, while 50 dogs and 27 cats found new homes in February.

Animal Services Director Brad Rayfield reported that some of the animals brought to the shelter were reclaimed by their owners. January's numbers show 15 dogs and one cat were reclaimed. February saw 19 reclaimed dogs and one cat.

Anyone looking to add to their family by adopting a new pet can go to the Animal Services Web site at www.hendersoncountync.org/animals to view some of the animals available for adoption. Animal Services can be reached at 828-697-4723.
