Jongo Java Opens on South Main
There's a new place on Main Street to get your morning, afternoon or evening java, and you can do it in an environmentally friendly way.
Jongo Java officially opened on Saturday, January 16, although it had a soft opening Friday evening. Owner Jamie Tanner expressed her excitement Friday afternoon at opening the coffee house after previously working as a barista and in real estate. The coffee house is located at 117 South Main St., in Hendersonville in the former location of Savannah's on Main.
Tanner explains where the name Jongo comes from.
"Jongo is a southern Brazilian celebration of community and where coffee beans come from, so I thought it would be just a great, great name," she said.
Tanner says Jongo Java, in addition to offering a variety of coffees and specialty drinks, will provide the community with organic and gluten-free products. There will be a real juice bar and local baked goods. She says she is dedicated to serving organic products while protecting the environment. All of their coffee is 100 percent organic and 100 percent fair-trade and shade-grown. Jongo's coffee cups and lids are also completely compostable, Tanner says. Even the coffee stirrers are organic. They're pasta noodles.
"We want to sell a million cups of coffee and not have the cups lay around for 10,000 years," says Tanner.
Jongo Java will soon be a place where you can buy a book, order a cup of coffee and sit down for a good read. Joslyn Bleick, who recently closed down Mountain Lore Bookstore, is opening a new bookstore inside the 117 South Main location. Eva Ritchey is also relocating her Once Upon a Sign store to the Jongo Java site.
You can reach Jongo Java 828-696-9052 or visit them online at www.jongojava.com.
