Let the Campaigns Begin

The 2010 election season began Monday with candidate filing at the Henderson County Board of Elections, but there was hardly a rush of candidates vying for political office.

At the end of the first day of filing, only Tom Apodaca and Nedra Moles submitted their names for public office. Apodaca is seeking another term as the North Carolina senator representing District 48, which consists of Henderson, Buncombe and Polk counties. Moles filed for another term as Henderson County register of deeds.
But there is still plenty of time for any people wanting to jump into the political fray. Filing will run through noon on Feb. 26. People have until 5 p.m. on April 9 to register to vote, change their party affiliation or update their address for the May 4 primary.
The Henderson County Board of Elections plans to keep an updated list of candidate filings on its Web site. Go to http://www.henderson.lib.nc.us/county/elections to see the latest list of candidates. People wishing to learn more about the 2010 election can visit the office off Spartanburg Highway at 75 E. Central St., Hendersonville, or call (828) 697-4970.
