Carolyn Sakowski, author of Touring the Western North Carolina Backroads, will talk about her popular book and how it came to be in the Kaplan Auditorium on Thursday, July 26 at 2 p.m.

After extensive research and thousands of miles driven, Sakowski published the collection of 21 tours in the early 1990’s. The highways that connected early settlements were bypassed when new roads were built but these backroads lead to interesting and historical places.

Twenty years years later, Sakowski drove more than 4,000 miles to update the same tours for the third edition of what has become a classic travel guide for Western North Carolina taking readers off the beaten path to historic sites and landmarks by departing from main highways and thoroughfares in favor of the backroads.

The program is sponsored by Friends of the Library. It is free and open to the public.
