Works like this from last year's Chalk It Up! will decorate downtown sidewalks July 21.

Registration for the annual sidewalk art gallery that is Chalk It Up! is underway with those possessing a talent with multi-colored chalk to undertake their art Saturday June 21.
Chalk It Up began almost 16 years ago with three children drawing on the sidewalk in front of their mother's store.
Since then, It has blossomed into one of the most beloved and endearing summer art events that Hendersonville has to offer with more than 150 participants annually taking part.
Categories for the contest are for ages 5 & under, 6-8 years old, 9-12 years old, 13-20 years, 21 & over, professional and charity. Chalk is provided with each artist receiving 20 different colors. There will be five winners in each age category with the local merchants donate the prizes for those winners. The professional category has one ‘best of show’ winner and the charity category winner receives a $50 U.S. Savings Bond.
"Some of the people involved now weren't even born when we started,' said event organizer Barbara Hughes.
The 16th Annual Chalk It Up date is Saturday,July 21 and July 28 will be the rain date. The event starts at 9 a.m.
