YouTheatre of Flat Rock Playhouse recently received a $5,500 grant which will allow middle school members of The Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County to attend a YouTheatre Camp.

The grant will allow fourteen middle school Club members to attend a weeklong YouTheatre day camp July 16 - 20 where campers will experience instruction in zumba, drumming, world music, improvisation and visual arts as well as a visit to Carl Sandburg National Park to see the Playhouse Apprentice Company of actors perform one of the Sandburg shows.

Funding comes from Hendersonville Pediatrics, who continues their work to improve the health of kids in Henderson County as well as express their creativity and realize their full potential.

"We are delighted that we are helping to make some dreams come true for young kids. All kids need to have dreams, and the opportunity to achieve them," said Jim Volk of Hendersonville Pediatrics in a news release.  "I feel like this is something long overdue in our community, and I am so excited that with the incredible support of Hendersonville Pediatrics, we can offer an intensive arts education camp week to the Boys and Girls Club kids, and we are all looking forward to it,” added Lynn Penny, Director of YouTheatre Outreach.

During their time at theater camp, students from the Boys & Girls Club will also see their week of learning culminate with their very own performance by combining their talents with YouTheatre's Summer Vagabond Players for a presentation during the Harambee Festival, on Friday, July 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Sullivan Park on 7th Avenue.  “We are so honored to have an opportunity to provide this amazing opportunity.  This is an experience these kids will remember and draw confidence and pride from for days to come,” offered YT instructor Tania Battista.
