A Rainy Night in Hendersonville

As heavy rains continue to pound Henderson County, the National Weather Service placed the county and surrounding areas under a flash flood warning until early Wednesday morning. The communications center at the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office reported at least 25 roads closed due to rising water.
There have also been reports of a couple of submerged cars, but no injuries have been reported. Roads that had barricades up as of 10pm included Airport Road near Blue Ridge Community College; Shepherd Street; Glover Street; and Howard Gap Road. South of downtown Hendersonville, the communications center reported high water and barricades in the area in front of the Fresh Market.
According to the National Weather Service, a flash flood warning is in effect for Henderson and Transylvania Counties until 1:15am, with flooding “becoming widespread over much of Transylvania and southern Henderson counties." Mud Creek, Little River, the Davidson River and the headwaters of the French Broad were all overflowing their banks, according to the NWS, and smaller tributaries of these streams are likely to flood as well.
The NWS warns motorists to be especially careful when driving at night in these conditions as it is harder to recognize flood dangers. If flash flooding occurs, the NWS says you should act quickly and move immediately to higher ground. And if you come across a barricade, do not go around it.
The rain is expected to subside Tuesday evening with sunny skies forecast for Wednesday through Friday and partly sunny skies Saturday.
