Lime Leaf Grants WNC Diners Their Wish With Second Location

Kanas Lam and her husband, David Cheng, have operated the Thai restaurant Lime Leaf since 2005 in downtown Spartanburg. Since opening, some of Lam’s Western North Carolina diners have lobbied her to bring Lime Leaf’s style of Asian cuisine to this area.

Those diners are about to get their wish. Lam and Cheng are in the process of converting the former site of La Riserva on Hendersonville’s Main Street into their second location. Lam, who was at the site Wednesday, says the new downtown restaurant will open Sept. 21.
“We have some customers from Hendersonville, and they told me, ‘You need to put (a restaurant) up there,’” Lam said. “I told them I’ve never been there, but they told me it’s really nice, and all my friends told me it’s really nice there. Me and my husband were driving, and we said let’s go take a look. We just wanted to look around, and we saw this space. It was meant to be.”
Lam said she and her husband strive to give their customers “ the whole package.” She said they not only try to serve up the best in Asian cuisine, but they also pride themselves on their service and atmosphere.
“When people come in, they feel really comfortable and eat and drink. It’s really nice,” she said.
Creating a pleasant dining atmosphere is part of the reason Lam was at the space on Wednesday. In addition to operating Lime Leaf, Lam, who is from Hong Kong, said she is also a designer who created the interior design of her Spartanburg location. On Wednesday, she was giving the Hendersonville site her own personal touch.
“I want to change (this site) to a more Asian theme. I started painting red, and I painted bamboo there on the wall,” she said. “I hope people will like it.”
Lam said the Hendersonville location is perfect for Lime Leaf with its two stories, a basement and a wine room.
Lime Leaf’s food is primarily Thai with a fusion of other Asian delicacies. People wanting to eat healthy may also want to give Lime Leaf a try.
“We do a lot of stir fry. It’s more healthier than Chinese food because Chinese food has a lot of grease,” she said. “We use light oil, and we specialize in vegetarian dishes because we know people want to eat healthier.”
But don’t worry meat eaters. Lime Leaf will have plenty to offer you, too. Lime Leaf has 10 signature dishes that include lamb, seafood, chicken, pork and duck.
