Get Those Yards Looking Good

Do you or someone you know have an exceptional landscape? The city of Hendersonville Tree Board is currently accepting nominations for its annual Landscaping Awards.

The awards recognize streetfront landscapes that are both beautiful and thoughtfully planted and well-maintained. Residences and businesses within the city limits are encouraged to nominate themselves or others. Special consideration will be given to environmentally-friendly landscaping. Landscapes deemed environmentally-friendly are ones that are planted with drought-resistant native shrubs and trees and use little or no fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides.

The owners of winning residential and business landscapes will receive cash prizes of $150 for first place, $100 for second place, and $75 for third place. Award signs will be posted in the winning landscapes, and all winners will be honored at the City Council meeting on Sept. 2. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, Aug. 13, and judging will take place the third week in August.

Nominations can be e-mailed to treeboard@cityofhendersonville.org or they can be mailed to Hendersonville Tree Board, c/o Tammie Drake, City Clerk, PO Box 1670, Hendersonville, NC 28793. Include the category, landscape address, your name and phone number, and state briefly why you think the landscape deserves recognition. "Public input is highly valued at judging time, so make your opinions known," according to the Tree Board.
