Farm and City Life Come Together

The annual Farm City Day, scheduled for Saturday, October 2 at Jackson Park, celebrates the dependency of farm and city people on each other for products and services.

The day-long event, which first began in 1955, features urban and rural displays, antique and modern farm equipment, live music, square dancing, clogging, arts and crafts, children's events, games, wagon rides, displays, and of course food. The day will get under way with an opening ceremony at 10:15am. Entertainment will take place at Shelter 2 and Fields #3 and #4. Music this year will be provided by musicians such as Buddy Davis Band, Lissakeole Band, Sassafras Band, Southern Lights, Southern Mountain Smoke, and Appalachian Fire Band, among others.

Youth events will happen at Field #5 with games for 7-9-year-olds at 11am; adult games at noon; games for ages 10-12 at 1 pm; and games for children over 13 at 2pm. Games and activities include egg toss, sack races, corn shucking, and hog calling. At 3pm there will be a hog calling contest for all ages plus parent and child corn shucking.

Children can also try their hand at catching a fish from the Jackson Park pond. At 10am, there will be a parade through Jackson Park. The free fun runs through 4pm.
