Fall Into the Farm with Sandburg and Lincoln
By Leigh Wills
A day after the Carl Sandburg Home hosted 32 individuals as they became U.S. citizens, the historic site will be visited by one of the great American presidents.
The Sandburg Home is hosting Fall Into the Farm all day Saturday, and among the people who will be there is an Abraham Lincoln impersonator.
“It will be a family-friendly day,” said Connie Backlund, superintendent of the Carl Sandburg Home. “It’s the first time we’ve offered this particular event. It’s an outreach effort to families and children just to welcome them to the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site.”
All of the events are free of charge, including house tours. The day starts at 10 am and runs through 3pm. Abraham Lincoln will be at the amphitheater talking about life on the prairie.
“We have a couple of Meet Mr. Lincoln programs and a Lincoln story corner and a Lincoln talk. A lot of the things with Lincoln you can find throughout the day,” Backlund said. “We’re going to also have garden and barn tours and goat cheese making demonstrations.”
Something else new will be square dance lessons at 1 and 2 pm. Backlund said the lessons carry on a tradition from the Sandburg days. “There was historically during the Sandburg time a square dance team that practiced here,” she said. “We welcome everyone and hope people can join in.”
