Christmas Comes Early to Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra
Just in time for Christmas, the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra has received a bequest from the Hannan Family Charitable Trust in the amount of $185,000.
Gene Hamme, the symphony's board president, said the bequest is the largest single gift the symphony has ever received.
"Like most, the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra has had challenges due to the present state of the economy. This gift couldn't have come at a better time," Hamme said.
Marjorie "Peggy" Hannan was a concert pianist who graduated from the Julliard School of Music, played many concerts in the U.S. and abroad, and was an avid piano teacher until shortly before her death in 2008. In 1986, she and her husband Ray moved to Hendersonville, where they lived until her death. Peggy was an HSO board member and was a loyal supporter and generous contributor. The Hannans were active with Trinity Presbyterian Church, and Ray was an active volunteer with the Men's Rescue Mission. Ray Hannan passed away in June of this year at age 98.
Hamme said the Hannan funding will support the mission of the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra.
Hamme said, "Our organization and board members are committed to being wise stewards of every gift we receive. We will use these funds so that we can ensure our community will continue to enjoy a professional level of symphonic music and youth education normally found only in larger cities."
