The Blue Note Opens on Main Street

The restaurant/music venue formerly known as the Back Room is back - only now it's The Blue Note Grille and it's at 114 N. Main Street, Hendersonville, NC.
The Back Room/Flat Rock Wine Shoppe closed its Flat Rock, NC location this past Saturday. Owner David Brannock and his crew hightailed it to Hendersonville and (amazingly) re-opened tonight, just 3 days later, right on schedule. The new Flat Rock Wine Shoppe (the name stays) occupies the first floor, along with a few tables near the front windows. The Blue Note Grille, where the music happens, is on the second floor. Here's our opening night report:
The Crowd: Excited to be there, a convivial but well-behaved group, including some obviously loyal fans who came by to check out the new location and/or show their support. And they were a camera-toting bunch - it was like a paparazzi convention with flashes going off everywhere; people were taking pictures of people taking pictures.
The Music: Singer-songwriter Steve Whiteside, host of their open mic-night held court; singer Carol Deurmit, a Hendersonville favorite who just happened to be in the crowd joined Whiteside (to huge cheers) and belted out a few tunes. And there were impromptu performances by others including owner David Brannock.
The Service: Super-friendly and attentive. Our server brought us an extra bottle of water chilled in ice since they were having some minor a/c problem.
The Food: Good. Fast. Hot. And we were in luck - it was hamburger night, we ordered ours with cheddar cheese and applewood smoked bacon (the menu includes lots more options like crab cakes, fresh seafood, steak, pasta and daily specials).
The Vibe: Loud and lively but laid-back upstairs. Everyone looked like they were having a really good time. The first floor offered a more relaxed intimate setting conducive to quiet conversation.
The Blue Note/Flat Rock Wine Shoppe is located at 114 N. Main Street, Hendersonville, NC, just across from the old courthouse, and is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday. The wine shop offers 700+ bottles of wine. Call 828-697-6828 or visit www.flatrockwineshoppe.com for more info.
