Another Successful Apple Festival Has Come and Gone

The 2010 version of the North Carolina Apple Festival wrapped up on Labor Day with the King Apple Parade.

This year's parade featured the usual assortment of beauty queens, city, county and state leaders, marching bands, veterans, civic groups, businesses, fire trucks (and their sirens), tractors, classic autos, and horses. And since this is an election year, there were a wealth of politicians on hand to shout greetings to the crowd of people, or make that the crowd of voters.

Hendersonville's own Jeff Miller, who is running for Congress, marched down Main Street as a team of supporters passed out campaign stickers. Not to be outdone, his opponent, Heath Shuler, a former NFL quarterback, lobbed plastic footballs into the crowd along South Main, each one bearing a Shuler for Congress logo.

The politicians and everyone else in the parade had no shortage of people to wave to as the crowds lined the entire parade route down Main Street. In many places, the crowd was eight-people deep or more, everyone straining their necks under the hot sun to catch a glimpse of a friend or loved one.
