Civitan Club of Hendersonville

Civitan International is a volunteer service organization for both men and women. It was organized in 1917 in Birmingham, Alabama and has now spread throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Civitan has a three-fold purpose: service, increasing knowledge and fellowship. The club's major emphasis is on helping people with developmental disabilities, which includes financial support to the Civitan International Research Center at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. The local club helps support individuals with disabilities by participating in projects such as Special Olympics and the annual Jimmy Freeman Halloween Party. Other projects include the provision of scholarships to local graduating high school seniors, delivery of canteens and flyers for the American Red Cross. and parking assistance for the Annual Friends of the Library Book Sale. In addition, the local club places an emphasis on fellowship and gaining knowledge at each of their semi-monthly meetings.

Civitan Club meets at 11:30 A.M. for a luncheon on the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Chariot, 7th Avenue West and Church Street, Hendersonville, NC.
